EVENTS AND TRADITIONS:
[poll id="3"]

Bar Review (Thursday Nights):
Come out Thursday nights for a drink with your fellow law students. Each Thursday during the semester, the SBA community Affairs Committee (SBA-CA), or the SBA-CA in conjunction with a student organization, will provide an opportunity for all law students to get away from the Atrium, mingle, relax and have a good time with their classmates. BR’s take place a local bar/pub/club and are ALWAYS a GREAT time! The first BR is typically held at Essen Haus. SBA-CA will organize future BRs based on the results of a survey of law students favorite downtown Madison bars. Student organizations will also have the opportunity to reserve BRs for special events open to all law students, with some restrictions.

Dean’s Cup (September)
The University of Wisconsin Dean’s Cup is an annual competition between the students of the University of Wisconsin Medical School and the University of Wisconsin Law School. The month-long competition serves as a way to meet med students, fellow law students, and to give back to the community through local charities.

Race Judicata (September/October)
Annual fundraiser for the Public Interest Law Foundation to raise money for summer grants for people who work in unpaid public interest jobs. This is a great way to support your fellow law students who work in public interest!

1L SBA Elections (September/October):
The Student Bar Association (SBA) is looking for the new crop of school decision makers and leaders among the 1L class and the MLI students. Elected representatives will be integrated into the various arms of the SBA. These students will help delegate student organization funds, create important service and social activities, and plan and determine many of the law school’s administrative and academic initiatives. If you are interested in helping to shape and mold the direction of the University of Wisconsin Law School, pick up a petition, get it signed by 25 of your fellow classmates and submit it to the SBA office. The top seven vote receivers from the 1L class and the highest vote receiver from the MLI class will be offered membership in SBA.

Homecoming (November):
To honor our graduating 3Ls and MLI students, SBA-CA will be sponsoring a day-long event providing food and drinks. This year, the event coincides with the UW Homecoming festivities, the Badgers vs. Indiana Hoosiers football game, and Madison’s World famous Halloween celebration. 3Ls will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to take the football field, run its length, and toss their “Hats and Canes” over the end-zone goalpost. Legend has it that if you catch your cane you can rest assured you’ll win your first case after graduation. The day typically begins in the Law School Atrium for Bloody Maries, Mimosas, Screwdrivers, and Doughnuts from Madison’s own Greenbush Bakery. From there, 3Ls, MLI students and their guests head down University Avenue to Camp Randall Stadium for the game. At the conclusion of the game, 3Ls, MLI Students and their guests are invited back to the law school for a Smoky Jon’s World famous Bar-B-Que meal, or vegetarian alternative, and drinks. Find out more about Cane Toss lore here.

Date Auction (November):
Date Auction 2008 to Benefit Women and Children ShelterThe law school is bringing together all of UW grad students to support Madison’s Early Childhood Learning Center. Students from the med school, law school, pharmacy school, history department, and any other grad department you can think of, will be kindly auctioning themselves off for a date at a local Madison restaurant for charity. So bring your checkbook…your perfect match could be a bid away.

Malpractice Bash (November):

Historically, the event has been done in conjunction with BLSA, however, all groups and clubs are encouraged to participate.
