1L Spring Electives Information

Greetings, First-Year Law Students!

The time has come to begin to think about your spring course schedule. Even though most of your schedule will be set for you (all full-time 1Ls will be taking Constitutional Law I, Introduction to Criminal Procedure, Legal Research & Writing I, and Property), you will, in early November, be able to make a preference for your elective course.

*Please join us at an Informational Session on First-Year Electives on Friday, October 22nd.
Sessions will be held at 9:55 and 12:05 in Room 2260.
*Professors will be available to answer your questions
Refreshments will also be available. (At 9:55: bagels and coffee. At 12:05: pizza.)

These are the first-year elective courses for Spring 2011:
Administrative Law
Civil Procedure II
Contracts II
International Law
Torts II

We will do our best to give you your first or second choice in elective, but cannot always accommodate everyone. Most of these courses are also open to second- and third-year students, so you will have an opportunity to see what life will be like in the next two years of law school. (International Law is an exception. Its enrollment is limited to 1Ls.)

In making your choice, you should be thinking about how this elective course may fit in with your career plans. This is why we are holding the information sessions on the first-year elective courses.
The sessions will be similar in content: you need attend only one of them. The professors who regularly teach these courses will be available to answer your questions about the content of the courses and how they might fit into a larger curriculum plan for your three years at the law school. Kevin Kelly, Assistant Dean for Curricular Affairs, will chair the sessions and can also answer questions about how these courses fit into graduation requirements and/or the requirements for diploma privilege. The professors who will attend include:

Professor John Ohnesorge — Administrative Law
Professor Linda Greene — Civil Procedure II
Professor Cheryl Weston — Civil Procedure II
Professor Darian Ibrahim — Contracts II
Professor Alexandra Huneeus — International Law
Professor Heinz Klug — International Law
Professor Steven Barkan — Torts II

We hope to see many of you at these information sessions. For those who cannot attend, the sessions will be videotaped and made available on the law school website.
